FESTIVAL TRAVEL ITINERARY TIPS

Conference sessions for The Digital Storytelling Festival begin Thursday June 10, 2004 at 9:00AM and conclude Saturday June 12th following an evening of traditional storytelling. We suggest you plan your travel itinerary in order to arrive in Sedona Wednesday June 9 in time to attend our registration reception being held from 6:00PM - 9:00PM.

If you wish to attend the first international membership meeting of The Digital Storytelling Association being held on Sunday, June 13 you may wish to plan your departure time for late afternoon or evening on June 13 or Monday, June 14. The Digital Storytelling Association meeting is expected to conclude by early afternoon on Sunday, June 13.


ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL

The Festival events will take place between The Sedona Red Rock High School and The Sedona Center for Arts & Technology. Both facilities are located in the West Sedona area of town and are within easy walking distance of each other. The main artery of West Sedona is Highway 89A. The High School and Center for Arts & Technology are located on the north and south sides of the Highway 89A at the intersection of Upper Red Rock Loop/Cultural Park Place. www.sedonachamber.com/sedona/maps2.htm

Recommended attire for the Festival is comfortable, especially shoes. You may wish to bring a light jacket or sweater since the high desert cools down rapidly at night and Festival activities may include an outdoor element.


YOUR STAY IN SEDONA, ARIZONA

Spectacular Sedona, is a world famous tourist destination. Easily accessed by car, or shuttle service it is located 125 miles north of Phoenix, Arizona and 27 miles south of Flagstaff. Sedona has a delightful climate; located at 4,500 feet elevation, expect the average high temperature in June to be 90 and the low, 57. Estimated precipitation is 0.49. The moon will be at its fullest on June 14, lending a spectacular glow to the surrounding landscape and the Festival below. The clear blue Arizona skies are in stark contrast to the dramatic red-rocks, creating a visually intense landscape palette! Bring your camera or sketch pad!

AIR TRANSPORTATION

The most common air travel route to Sedona is via Phoenix, Sky Harbor International Airport. Alternatively, smaller flights are serviced by the Flagstaff Airport, located approximately 30 miles north of Sedona.



GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Once you arrive in Phoenix, or Flagstaff, you will need to arrange ground transportation to Sedona. Shuttle services are available from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as well as many rental-car agencies. It is approximately a 2.5 hour drive from Phoenix to Sedona. The Sedona Phoenix Shuttle runs at regularly scheduled times - however advance reservations are required. The shuttle has pick-up/drop-off points in Sedona at the Sedona Super 8 Motel (Located in West Sedona) and the Bell Rock Inn, in the Village of Oak Creek (South Sedona). Round trip fare with advance reservations is $65.00. One way fare is $40.00. In the Phoenix Airport terminals, the Phoenix Sedona shuttle is serviced at the Arizona Intercity Transportation Counter located in each terminals baggage claim area.

Transportation is booked on passengers flight information. Advance reservations are required (2 - 3 week advance reservation recommended, with a 48-hour cancellation policy) and reserved with a credit card. The shuttle delivers to the passengers designated hotel in Sedona. Please indicate you are a participant of The Digital Storytelling Festival, to receive the discount rate of $75.00 for round-trip, $49.00 for one way. Payment is by cash or check to driver.
